Past and Present in a Sea of Purple: Walk to End Alzheimer's

The Give Back Girls headed to Lighthouse Point Park last September for the annual Alzheimer’s walk. Our job? To help set up the event. Soon a plain field would become a festive, colorful event highlighted in a sea of purple. A couple of quick facts from alz.org: In Connecticut alone, nearly 80,000 individuals, 65 years and older live with Alzheimer’s along with 128,000 unpaid caregivers. The annual event is a day of hope to the population affected in some way by the disease.
GBGs Michelle, Arlene, Angie, and Johanna showed up ready to work! We hauled tables, weights, signs, and flower pots while others worked on putting together hundreds of colorful flowers. Enjoy this refreshing video.,,
What do the colored flowers represent?
Blue- living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia;
Purple-the loss of someone to Alzheimer’s
Yellow-caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia;
Orange- show of support for the cause; and
White-represents hope for the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.

Each time we do an event of this type, our hearts are truly touched by the masses that come to support a common cause. No one asks where you are from or who you voted for, because it does not matter. Diseases are non-discriminatory! The love, hope, and care is palpable at these events as people share the commonality of a cause.
Speaking of love… the girls could not resist getting hold of the littlest supporter…wait…this is actually a therapy doll! This doll travels to visit patients with dementia. We could not believe how life like it was. Such a comfort to cuddle with!
Well that’s a wrap on this one! There is only one thing left to say:
