Whoa! Give Back Girls have been Busy!

The Give Back Girls have been busy in the community while tending to busy personal lives as well!! Our followers have seen our posts on facebook and instagram; however our blog has been on the back burner for a bit. Time to catch up!

The Closer to Free bike race in September is an event that the Give Back Girls have done before. This year, Johanna and Angie joined us. Michelle and I were assigned to parking bicycles, while Angie and Johanna had a sweet assignment in merchandise!

Before long, Michelle and I were re-positioned to the sports drink booth where there was barely any drink left and a handful of water bottles remaining to give out. Needless to say, we had an easy, yet no-so-exciting task. That happens sometimes, so we took the opportunity to catch up and regroup on other volunteer opportunities that were coming up. We had hours to talk, laugh, and plan.

Angie and Johanna were thrilled with their task as they worked the merchandise store. Straightening shirts and selling product while chatting it up with cyclists and their guests.

After our shift was done, we enjoyed a complimentary lunch from the food trucks.

It was great to see the excitement shared by the riders as they returned to the field. Every rider crossing that line meant that additional money was being put towards the fight to end cancer. This event has enough energy to power a small country! It was a pleasure to be part it! As always, we found ways to have a little fun while giving back, including meeting new people and connecting with friends

Next project…Arlene headed home to complete the photo-op boards she was painting for the Shoreline Trolley Museum's pumpkin patch! The Children at the pumpkin patch would enjoy the painted mummy and scarecrow scenes their as parents captured their little faces peeking through the cutouts. The pumpkin patch was every weekend in October.

Johanna worked hard on more than one weekend at the pumpkin patch this year, restocking pumpkins and entertaining the children when they came to they patch on the trolley. She was dressed as a pumpkin herself!

Our GBC, Johanna has been very active at the Shoreline Trolley museum. She finished up a series of reading in Spanish to children on Saturdays. She loves to give back to her community!

Spoiler alert! In this blog is a picture of a new Give Back Girl who has joined the fun. Stay tuned! Today one of our Give back girls shared with me that her friend had asked her “Are you going to keep doing things with the give back girls?” I asked her how she replied and she did not hesitate with a firm, “Absolutely!” I was NOT surprised! Thank you for following along with us.
